For the second year, Cedar Lake and Louisville Collegiate School are collaborating on our Partnership Outreach project. The 2009-2010 Outreach culminates in our third 5K run/walk to be held on Saturday, May 8. This year, the 5K and 1-mile Fun Run will be held at twilight (6 p.m.) in the Historic Cave Hill Cemetery on Grinstead Drive across from Collegiate. The race course will follow the lovely landscape of hills and lakes surrounded by trees, waterfowl and family memorials, and finishes on the Louisville Collegiate campus. We are very excited to begin the race as the sun sets in the early evening, offering a new experience for many of our runners and walkers.

Registration is $20 for adults ages 13-up and $15 for ages 5-12 before race day; $25 for adults ages 13-up and $20 for ages 5-12 on the day of the race. The 1-mile Fun Run/Walk is $15 before race day and $20 on the day of the race.

The Cedar Lake Partnership Challenge Outreach promotes an alliance with a local school. The project, launched during the 2006-07 school year, provides students with a mentored service learning opportunity that centers around interactions with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Cedar Lake partnered with Kentucky Country Day School during the project’s inaugural year.

Students spent time volunteering during activities with Cedar Lake clients. They collected more than 9,000 articles of clothing during a fund-raising drive and organized and participated in holiday parties with Cedar Lake residents. The CLPC project also included classroom and on-site discussions with Cedar Lake staff. Topics included health care, disabilities, leadership, philanthropy and corporate citizenship.
